Here at Lucky Lake Hunting Adventures we know you come to Saskatchewan hunt waterfowl, and that is what we give you. Unlike most outfitters, with us you hunt the whole time you are here. You are guaranteed at least 2 hunts everyday with us .That's right, in a 3 day hunt you have a minimum of 6 hunts, 4 day hunt you get 8 hunts, etc!
Spotting is the key to hunting in waterfowl Canada, and we strive to be the best. We employ a different tactic than most when it comes to spotting and guiding. Firstly you are guided full time during your hunt. There is no "dropping you off" after the decoys are set. We are there to call the birds, call the shot and watch the limits. You are on vacation, let us do the work. Secondly, the guides are also the spotters. The morning guides spend their afternoons spotting and the afternoon guides spend their mornings spotting. This eliminates the inevitable confusion from trying to relay information from spotter to guide. We have found this also prevents guide burnout and keeps us hungry for the next hunt. After switching to this system our birds per hunter per day went up 16%. At 4:30 in the morning nothing quite beats knowing the spot inside and out, and not just from a description on a map. We also employ several prespotters that are on the road looking at new areas and monitoring birds for the guides.
A typical day starts at about 4:00 a.m. with coffee, juice, toast, muffins, or fruit. Then it's off to the field in one of our Suburbans with you guide for the morning waterfowl hunt. We hunt from Aframe blinds, layout blinds, and use white cover suits when hunting snow geese. Nothing beats quality when it comes to decoys and we got em. Full body Canada, speckle belly and snow goose decoys, as well as an almost endless supply of sock decoys are all employed when hunting with us. Guides are all accomplished callers, but we do use electronic callers when hunting snow/blue/Ross' geese.
The afternoon hunt starts around 2 pm with your choice of ducks, cranes, snow geese or upland birds. After October 15th dark geese may be hunted all day, so if you are bent on goose hunting this is the time for you. We try to tailor every hunt for you, so your input is vital in making this the best Canadian waterfowl hunt it can be. After photos it is back to the lodge for a hearty supper and a well earned rest.
Bird cleaning and freezing is included in the hunt. We employ on site bird cleaners, and all birds are breasted and tagged in compliance with the Federal Migratory Bird Act. We understand that with today's airline policies it is extremely expensive to fly a cooler home. If you choose to not take all your birds home we will donate them on your behalf.
Our season dates are September 1 through December 15. We are lucky here in the fact that the Saskatchewan River stays open well into the end of December and snowfall is usually light. This makes for some of the best, and underrated big honker and fat mallard hunting anywhere.
